All-size repair and accessory shops are going to get the bigger benefits from the new import rules from the European Union.
You know what we’re talking about, right? The new Reform that states that all goods imported from outside of the UE need to pay VAT and go through customs clearance, regardless of the purchase amount (which before used to be 22 euros).
This reform will take place on 1 July 2021, and companies are already preparing for this major change. We can see companies like UPS already updating their requirements to meet this new regulations:

But what’s in it for us, UE shops?
Well, as the Helsinki Times sated: “The reform will also facilitate online shops engaged in consumer trade in the EU; a company does not need to register as a VAT payer in all of the EU countries where it sells goods or e-services to consumers.”
This means that repair shops will become the first option when purchasing accessories and electronic devices parts, since the objective of this law is to bring equal opportunities to all sellers inside the European Territory. Now, the cheap e-commerce sites will become secondary options, while promoting inside products with the same (or even better quality) at competitive prices.
What we recommend you to do?
- Prepare for the inevitable increase in demand on the most frequently purchased products, like: chargers, cables, batteries, accessories, cases, etc.
- Be present in your customers mind: Have a good online and offline presence, keep you store clean and be welcoming to new customers, always with a smile.
- This is a good time to step up from your local competitors: Try giving small promotions or extras for each service or purchase.
